Frequently asked questions

Yes. Download TotalXDR and use every feature free for 15 days. No account or payment details needed.

Full XDR brightness works on MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ with Apple silicon (M1 Pro and later), Studio Display XDR and Pro Display XDR. Night mode dimming works on any display.

TotalXDR is available in 12 languages: English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano, Português (Brasil), Nederlands, Русский, 日本語, 한국어, 简体中文 and 繁體中文. It follows your Mac’s language, or you can choose one in Settings → General → Language.

Studio Display XDR gets the full XDR boost, up to 2000 nits. The original Studio Display (2022) has no HDR backlight, so it can’t go brighter — but Night mode can still dim it below its minimum.

Yes. Any Mac running macOS 13 or later works with Pro Display XDR.

TotalXDR uses the same brightness headroom macOS uses for HDR video, and never exceeds what the display reports. Thermal protection lowers boost automatically when the Mac gets hot.

A brighter screen uses more power. You can pause boost on battery, below a battery level, or in Low Power Mode — the menu shows live system power so you can see the cost.
